Jacqueline Paniccia, a graduate student in Behavioral Neuroscience, is the recipient of the 2015 King Research Excellence Award.

This award honors Dr. Richard King, an Emeritus Professor of Psychology at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, for his many contributions to our department over the years. This award recognizes research excellence.

Jacqueline studies the integrity of the astrocytes in the basolateral amygdala in a heroin conditioning model. Manipulation of these astrocytes has shown to have implications in key brain areas involved in drug abuse. The King Award will allow Jacqueline to purchase products, such as a design drug virus and a clozapine-N-oxide, from the UNC Viral Vector Core to explore her line of research.
