Douglas Hermes, a graduate student in Behavioral Neuroscience, is the recipient of the 2015 King Research Excellence Award.

This award honors Dr. Richard King, an Emeritus Professor of Psychology at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, for his many contributions to our department over the years. This award recognizes research excellence.

Douglas studies the protective properties of endocannabinoids in neuroAIDS and its receptor-mediated mechanisms. The Richard King Research Excellence Award is helping to cover the expenses of additional chemicals and materials. In addition, Douglas is hoping to use part of the King Award to travel to an international Society on NeuroImmune Pharmacology (SNIP) conference in April 2016 in Poland. The SNIP conference promotes research in pharmacology, immunology, and neuroscience and is well attended by scientists that specifically focus on neuroAIDS and drug abuse.
